Kindergarten registration for next year

If you have an incoming kindergartener for the 2012-2013 school year, now’s the time to ensure they’re registered. Fall Creek kindergarten registration is May 8 and 9. If you have not already been contacted by the school to set up an appointment on those days, call immediately to do so at 274-2214.

National PTA has funds available for health and fitness push

Hey folks,

The following is from the New York State PTA. If anyone is interested in following up and applying for these funds I encourage you to apply!  This is a great opportunity to start a new tradition at Fall Creek!!

Action For Healthy Kids, in partnership with the Stop & Shop Giant Family Foundation, is offering grants of up to $1,000 to schools in seven states (DC, VA, MD, NY, NJ, CT, and MA) to implement AFHK’sGame On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge web-based school wellness toolkit. Game On provides schools with a roadmap for creating sustainable changes to school environments around nutrition and physical activity through creating a school-based team of stakeholders to develop and implement a plan with support from AFHK. It has proven very effective at helping schools to strengthen and expand existing wellness initiatives, and to launch new ones.

There are currently grant funds available for thirteen (13) additional schools. If you know of any schools that could benefit from this grant, please forward them this link to the online RFP: http://www.actionforhealthykids.org/assets/clubs/stop-and-shop.docx and have the schools contact Steve Greene, M.Ed, MPA as soon as possible with questions or if interested. They can disregard the current due dates on the RFP, as they are out of date. Interested schools should get their application in by Friday, February 24. Chocolate Sale Fundraiser starts this week

The Gertrude Hawk chocolate sale begins today! All students will receive order forms along with instructions in this week’s take-home folder.

There is no requirement to participate in the sale, and we do not request that kids go door-to-door, but many parents find it easy to bring order forms to work, share them with friends, etc., and this is an easy and substantial fundraiser for the PTA.

Order forms are due back on Friday, March 2, and chocolate will be delivered to the classrooms by the end of the day on March 23.

Super Game Day schedule update

Super Game Days #2 and #3 will both be in March. March is a long month, and who knows? Maybe it will even come in like a lion this year. Bring your favorite table-top games to share with others, or come learn a new game! All ages are encouraged to attend.

#2 will be on Sunday, March 4, from 2-4 pm.

#3 will be on Sunday, March 25, from 2-4 pm.

Both events will be in the school library. If you wish, you may bring a snack to share, but it needs to be something that won’t make floors crumby or fingers greasy. No food or beverages will be allowed in the library area itself.

  • And we’ll sing the birthday song for kids who have a birthday between 2/10 - 2/16.

National Dental Health Month

Dear Fall Creek Families,

February is National Dental Health Month.

Fall Creek School and Fall Creek Family Dentistry are sponsoring a Dental Health Poster contest for all who wish to participate. The slogans for this year are:

“ROCK YOUR SMILE” or “THERE’S MAGIC in YOUR SMILE”.

Rules of Poster Contest:

  • Use one of the above slogans.
  • Draw a picture for the slogan.
  • 12”x18” poster paper is available from the nurse or art teacher as needed.
  • DEADLINE: Hand in poster by Monday, February 13th to your teacher.
  • Posters will be grouped in the following grade levels: K-1, 2-3, 4-5.
  • Winners will be announced at Friday Morning Meeting on Feb 17th.
  • Winning posters will be displayed.
  • IMPORTANT: write NAME, GRADE and TEACHER on the BACK of the POSTER.

We hope to see posters from many students. Good luck to the participating students!
